You Make The Call
Rule 3 Equipment:
A question was raised about uniform numbers. “Is 0 and 00 the same uniform number and would they be allowed as legal numbers on the same team?” Rule 3 Section 6D states that “an Arabic whole number (0-99) of contrasting color or outlined in contrasting, at least six inches high and must be worn and visible on the back of all uniform shirts. No players on the team may wear identical numbers…” This rule was changed in 2006 and the wording that 1 and 01 and 3 and 03 were examples of the same number was removed. This allows for more numbers for players to wear. However,1 and 01, as well as 3 and 03 are examples of different numbers, and can be worn by members of the same team during the game. This should clarify what numbers are not considered to be the same.
Flies in the infield - Play: R1 on 3B, R2 on 2B and R3 on 1B and one out. B5 hits, what appears to be, an infield fly that it is not called by the umpires. The ball was not caught and F5 picks up the ball and throws home for a force play with no tag being applied, and the runner is called out. After all play has ceased the defensive coach requests time to discuss the play with the umpires as they feel that the infield fly should have been called per ASA rules. After the umpires discuss the situation the plate umpire calls the batter-runner out on an infield fly and rules the runner that touched the plate safe for not being tagged. The offensive coach protests and asks if the umpires can legally call Infield fly after the fact?

There are some bats that bear the ASA certification mark but are still illegal. To help identify these bats, refer to the Non-Approved Bat List with PHOTOS. Please review the
